Some colours simply refuse to be ignored. P!nk began as part of my exploration of what happens when you bring neon colours and black together. Like its companions, I Predict a Riot and Because y Has a Long Tail, it started with thick, angular black acrylic, layered with an unapologetically bright neon paint.
But with this painting, I wanted the colour itself to be the star. The electric pink takes centre stage, with a much paler pink background giving it room to breathe. White spray and dripping paint add movement and a little unpredictability, while the black beneath provides the contrast that makes the whole thing sing.
And the name? A nod to the singer P!nk, whose boldness, energy and refusal to blend into the background seemed rather appropriate.
Loud, playful and not even trying to be subtle.
Just how I like it!
