Until I Can Too began, quite literally, in a dream. The original Until I Can painting was already finished, or so I thought, when I dreamt of a different version. By morning, the imagined painting wouldn't leave me alone, so I went back to the canvas and painted what I'd seen. The result is a work about that complicated space between wanting to be loved and learning how to give some of that love to yourself. Against washes of pink, red and white, a small plea emerges:
“LOVE ME! …at least until I can love myself. PLEASE.”
It's deliberately a little needy, a little funny and painfully human. Because self-love is all very well in theory. Sometimes, while we're figuring it out, we'd quite like somebody else to love us too.
