Sienna Part II sits somewhere between landscape and abstraction. A vivid sunset pink sky hangs above a rough, fragmented horizon, giving way to an expanse of warm, pale earth. There are suggestions of greenery, water and desert, but nothing quite resolves; the landscape is as much imagined as observed.
The piece came from a period of letting go of perfection and becoming more playful with paint: less concerned with replication, more interested in experimentation, colour and what emerged on the page. The result feels hot, expansive and slightly otherworldly. A facsimile of a landscape that might exist somewhere, or perhaps only in the imagination.
