This piece emerged from a period when, for reasons I couldn't quite explain, I needed to paint water. It began as an abstract seascape, layering deep blue, soft pink, grey and flashes of gold to create a shoreline somewhere between real and imagined. Then came the words:
Meet me by the water's edge.
I felt strangely compelled to call her Persephone; I can't really explain why. Perhaps it's fitting that Persephone's story is one of existing between two worlds. The water's edge is a threshold too: neither quite land nor sea.
Who is asking whom to meet there, and what happens when they do...I'll leave it entirely up to your imagination.
