I started running again. I still hate it. I feel slow; it hurts, and sometimes crossing the finish line on my feet rather than my hands and knees feels like an act of God. So when the running gets tough, I do what I always do in times of crisis: I pray.
During the final few minutes of one particularly difficult run, a prayer settled into a rhythm:
..."I don't have to compete. I am complete. Your love made me. Your love saved me."
Complete came from the first of those thoughts. The painting plays with the word itself, "INCOMPLETE", interrupted and crossed out, against energetic marks, bold black, blue and flashes of acid yellow. It's a reminder that there will always be someone faster, better, further ahead or doing things differently. But life isn't a competition.
You don't need to compete. You are complete.
